November 20, 2008

Attending: Larry Dominguez, Rachel Keeler, Geraldine Vander Haegen, Lisa Harlan, Mark Pedersen, Julie Henning.

Minutes: The October 16, 2008 minutes were amended and then approved.  The November 6, 2008 minutes were approved.

Officer Reports

President: Committee members are starting to fill in for Team 2011, with Keith Wolfe heading up the Social Committee.  Efforts are being made to invite Al Gore to be the Plenary Speaker.  Geraldine has offered support from NMT in the effort to get Al Gore as a speaker.

Past President: No report.

President Elect: No report.

Vice President: Mark is working on increasing chapter membership, particularly in Canada.  He is drafting a budget planning template.  Mark will draft a “letter of interest to provide services” to Puget Sound Partnership offering review capabilities and requesting to be on their mailing list.

Secretary/Treasurer: Julie received an IRS letter saying the tax return was sent in late. This was not the case and there are certified documents to verify the time taxes were filed.  The tax accountant has been contacted to determine whose responsibility it is to respond.

The budget will include a few more categories in the future.

The total cost for the meeting at Little Creek Casino was $1300.  The group agreed that was very reasonable and money well spent.

Newsletter Editor: Rachel will submit a news item to WDAFS regarding the WA-BC 2009 AGM.

Topics

Puget Sound/Georgia Basin: Approval was obtained to dedicate almost half of our $5,000 donation to sponsoring students’ attendance at the conference.  Details need to be worked out on how to notify students of the available funds.  Mark proposed we sponsor 12 students for the conference registration at $200 apiece for a total of $2400.  The motion was carried.  The chapter has three symposia approved: Fish Tracking, Salish Sea Sharks, and one regarding Stormwater.

AGM 2009: The meeting at LCC went well and most attendees signed up to help with the AGM.  Rachel will send an announcement of the 09 AGM to the WDAFS Newsletter.  Larry will put a video together advertising the 09 AGM that can be posted on YouTube.

The Salmon Project Conference, put on by the Salmon Recovery Board, has changed their conference dates slightly to immediately follow the 09 AGM at Little Creek Casino.  Brian Abbott is the contact person.

The Nisqually Tribe is putting on the South Sound Conference.  Larry will contact them to discuss possibilities for collaboration.

FAME has requested sponsorship for their conference, which will be occurring very close to the 09 AGM.  The Fish Committee is recommending sponsoring at $500-$1,000.  This will be an opportunity to have a display for WA-BC and possibly recruit membership via a presentation.  Mark will respond to them and report back to the EXCOM.

UW Student Outreach: Larry will give a presentation on Dec 2nd at the UW.  Julie will attend and help out if it occurs late in the day.

Archive: Discussion tabled.

Fish Culture Conference: This is Dec 2-4 in Spokane and they could use help encouraging folks to participate.  It was agreed to send a listserve to WA-BC members.  Geraldine will draft an announcement and send it to Eric who will send it to Jim.
