Topics

Old Business:

2010 AGM – Mark P. is updating the website a couple times a week.  Registration is up and running.  Pink and Chum’s website is under development and currently directs folks to our website.  Mark P needs to add an option for just attending the banquet.  Todd Kassler has been the person to do updates on registration, but Erin is the contact person for him.  Yvonne Muirhead has a block of rooms reserved at the Coast Bastion Inn and the Best Western.  There is interest from a vendor to do a half-day training session.  There will be an additional cost for a room, so arrangements need to be made with the venue.  Action: Mark P will ask if the Pink and Chum folks also have workshops.  Ann McCarthy, in Canada, is coordinating volunteers and the need is for about 15 people, which should be students.  Sponsors are coming in well, and the letter is available on the website. Action: Mark P will get a form onto the website for exhibitors.  Mark is working with Larry to contact potential sponsors/exhibitors.  Mark is talking with folks in the commercial fishing industry to help sponsor and/or donate for the raffle.  There is a need for a raffle coordinator, Mark will contact the Canadian folks to get someone to lead this up.

Symposia are getting filled up and there is interest in adding a Kokanee symposia, for a total of 10.  Pink and Chum have 5 sessions and 20 talks.  Abstract registration is up and 2 have been submitted so far.  The Opening will include a local tribal elder, the Canadian National Chief of First Nations, and an expert from Russia.  One more speaker is needed.  The commercial industry group will have a panel, and Mark is looking for a recreational fisher group to do the same.  Action: Mark C will send out a call for Award nominations.

Ideas were presented to have a photo contest and/or a Texas Hold’Em contest.

Mark C suggested having a workshop on AFS Professional Certification.  We should make a concerted effort to recruit members at this conference.  Almost half of the attendees at the Shelton meeting were non-members.  This year student members, non-members, regular members and exhibitors will be slightly differentiated.

By-Laws Approval – See report under Newsletter Editor report.

Trout Unlimited – A meeting was held to discuss a TU award for outstanding research related to salmonids and their habitat.  Excom and TU members decided to give an award at the AGM.  For this year only, the award will be linked with the student papers and posters and be given to the best paper or poster related to outstanding salmonid research.  One or two TU representatives will be present in Nanaimo to present the award. Tad Scwhaeger and TU rep Bill Abrahamse will work out the details
