EXCOM Teleconference Meeting Minutes – FINAL
May 6, 2010
Attending: Jim Shannon, Mark Pedersen, Mark Celedonia, Geraldine Vander Haegen, Larry Dominguez, Orlay Johnson, Lisa Harlan (Asst to Secretary/Treasurer – taking minutes).
Minutes: Minutes for April 1st and April 15th, 2010 were approved.
Officer Reports
President – Jim Shannon: Motion to give $500 WDAFS scholarship to Thomas Pool of University of Washington was seconded and passed. Erin accepted the COTY award for the chapter at WDAFS in Salt Lake City.
Past President – Larry Dominguez: Team 2011 had their second major 2011 Planning Meeting in Seattle with 35 attendees. Planning is going well.
President Elect – Mark Pedersen: Sent out survey for changing time to meet. See below.
Vice President – Mark Celedonia: Working on Master Schedule for 2011 Planning, nearing finalization. He got the membership report from AFS National and has seen an increase in members and student membership. He will look at the number of memberships resulting from our 2010 annual chapter meeting.
Secretary/Treasurer – Erin Lowry: No report.
Newsletter Editor – Geraldine Vander Haegen: Sent out the AGM summaries. She is starting to work on a spring newsletter. Everyone should submit items to Geraldine by the next teleconference on May 18th.
Assistant Newsletter Editor – Orlay Johnson: No report.

Old Business:
Rules and Procedures Draft – Rules and procedures draft needs work from anyone who can spend time on it.
Coho ESA petition review – Coho ESA petition review. Sam Wright submitted a petition to NMFS to list coho. The Chapter will track progress and NMFS’s response.
BC Hydro scholarship – Progress is slow as we are waiting for a representative from BC Hydro to be assigned to help with selecting the winners. However, they still hope to award the scholarships in late June.
New Business:
Change Teleconference Time –Everyone is available on either Monday or Tuesday from 10am – noon. A motion was made to change the meeting time to the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 10 – 11am. Motion was passed.
AFS EOS Request Contributions & Applications for 2010 Student Travel Fund – AFS Equal Opportunity Section has requested a donation to fund travel for minority and female students to the Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh. Chapter will consider the request after hearing a budget update from Erin.
Coastal Watershed Institute Proposal – The Coastal Watershed Institute sent a proposal for the chapter to fund equipment, which will also be considered after the budget update.
Action Items for next meeting:
Send newsletter items to Geraldine by May 18th.
Jim will post some links on the website for connecting people to opportunities to help clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill
